BBOS

The Biodiversity Business and Offset Scheme (BBOS) is a market-based approach that engages multiple stakeholders from different production and consumption markets across all sectors of economic activities in the responsible management and sustainable utilization of the country’s biodiversity resources. The scheme provides a structured market system that promotes and coordinates transactions among different actors within Ghana’s emerging biodiversity marketplace to ensure equitable benefit sharing and distribution of resources towards the increase of conservation efforts in the country.

The Biodiversity Business and Offset Scheme (BBOS) is being implemented in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ghana to mainstream biodiversity into all sectors of economic activities in Ghana using biodiversity offsetting guidelines developed in consultation with stakeholders. The scheme evaluate the country’s biodiversity loss and gains and seeks to reduce the nation’s cumulative biodiversity loss resulting from land clearing and infrastructural development, whilst providing incentives to private landowners to manage land for conservation banking and other biodiversity enterprises i.e. ecotourism, apiculture, floriculture, horticulture, education etc.
